James over at Men with Pens wrote a particularly inspiring post I’d like to share with you today. In “HALT Your Way to Better Business,” James talks about a process often used in recovery programs.
Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired. It’s a mantra used in recovery programs to help people replace bad behaviors with better ones. Usually used as a coping mechanism in addiction recovery, its applications can be tried in many other areas of life as well.
HALT helps you get in touch with what you’re really feeling and why you feel that way. It lets you choose a better action to meet your true need – and that need is often just as simple as food, a rest, some companionship or a break.
I can certainly see where such a technique would be helpful in many of areas of our daily lives - business, home, relationships, even when out shopping or something. And I can see teaching this concept to my kids.

Hi Annie - The Men With Pens post was great wasn’t it?
I checked out your link. Holding seminars does seem to bring in a lot of money. I know when I’ve attended courses and seminars before, I couldn’t resist doing a headcount to see what they were making and it’s a lot.

I know, huh? I’ve been to a few seminars myself and done the same thing.
I always think, sheesh, that’s where the money is! Forget all this other stuff.
My problem is that I’m not a great speaker. Writing I can do, speaking in public, not so much. But I’m seriously considering it. Perhaps not on a grand scale of thousands of attendees but smaller venues of less than a hundred I could possibly overcome my fears long enough to make an utter fool of myself. (And then some, probably!)
