Baseball, pre-school orientation and concerts

Welcome back! Coffee's always on around here. Pull up your favorite chair and a grab a cup. Enjoy your visit today! And don't forget to stop back by again soon.

Sometimes when the weather is crappy, it’s hard to get excited about things. But I really *am* excited!

First, The Short Dude has pre-school orientation tomorrow afternoon. We are going to meet the director, get his class assignment and probably – hopefully – get to see his classroom and meet his new teacher.

He’s very excited about getting to go to school like the big kids. And, because the pre-school he’ll be going to is run by the school district, he’ll get to feel like a big boy because his class will actually be at the elementary school.

And I’m excited that it means once school starts, I’ll actually have a couple of hours every day with no kids at home! That will mean the ability to get lots of work done since there won’t be interruptions. I just have keep myself in check and not decide to go do errands, thinking “Well, I have the time. I might as well go.” Uh-huh. I *won’t* really have the time. We shall see, I guess.

Of course, that also means that I will probably want to get all of those little annoying chores done around the house too. I’ll be thinking, “Ok, so there’s nobody here to get in the way or holler or fuss if I just organize these toys and throw some away.”

Right. I can see it’s going to be challenging.

Secondly, my husband and I are going to The Mariners vs. The Minnesota Twins baseball game tomorrow night in Seattle. I have not been to Safeco Field before so it will be a treat. I stopped going to baseball games after my dad died because it just brought back too many memories. But those memories were all in the old Kingdome so hopefully it won’t be too emotional.

And lastly . . .

I won concert tickets!

Last night, KWJZ was giving away tickets to see Anthony Hamilton and George Duke at McCaw Hall in September. And I won! I won! I got 2 tickets and George Duke’s new CD. Very cool!

I’m not too into George Duke but I do like Anthony Hamilton, so it’ll be fun to go see them. Concerts are always good!

  • How exciting about the short one. I still haven't heard about mine getting in or not yet.

I have never been to a professional baseball game.

How exciting that you won tickets. I am probably more excited that it is called McCaw Hall. It is my maiden name and I don't know anyone with it that I am not related to. However I know of the semi-famous and wealthy NW McCaws who we aren't related to, at least not by several generations.
  • @White Hot Magik - Oh, I hope you hear soon! It's going to be so fun for the Short Dude. He was such a big boy when we went to the school yesterday.

My dad *loved* baseball and we used to go all the time - at least 10 home games a season. We always had a blast. And my dad was one of those guys who could whistle really loud. He always caught fly balls for me too. ;-)

The game last night was awesome. My husband and I had a great time.

Yes! In fact, I just got the package in the mail. Included in my prize was Georg Duke's newest CD. We just put it on and the kids are having fun listening to it.

That's funny about McCaw being your maiden name. How cool is that? And the hall is named after those semi-famous and wealthy folks. It's right down town Seattle. I haven't been there in ages, either. I'm going to take my mom to the concert (my husband's not that in to jazz).

  • Hi Annie - that is great. It's so much easier once all your kids are at school. And it's great that he's excited. My youngest is starting secondary school this year - time goes so fast.

Well done winning the concert tickets.

  • @Cath Lawson - Cath - Oh, I bet! I think I'm more excited about school starting than they are, LOL.

Yeah, the concert tickets - funny thing is, I wasn't really even trying. I heard the DJ say she was giving them away now and I waited for about a minute before I decided I would try. So, I got the phone, punched in the number and got a busy signal. And then I was thinking if I really wanted to dial again and decided I may as well. Got another busy tone. So, "what the heck, I'll give it one more shot" and hit redial, ending up being the right caller!

The person who answered was like "Congratulations! You're caller 7!" And I didn't know what to say. LOL So I said, "Right on! That's awesome."

Yeah, it was pretty funny. My husband was laughing at me the whole time.

And the baseball was awesome! I'm going to write about it later today.
