Baking, hay and a snowman

Welcome back! Coffee's always on around here. Pull up your favorite chair and a grab a cup. Enjoy your visit today! And don't forget to stop back by again soon.

I didn’t get to spend as much time baking yesterday as I had intended. Instead, I took a trip to town with my mom in my dad’s old 4×4. Mom keeps it on the farm to get hay . . . and to get us around town when the snow is knee deep.

After getting hay, a few additional groceries for Christmas dinner and watching other people trying to figure out how to drive on compact snow and ice, we arrived home and spent the afternoon baking.

Well, after taking the hay down the hill to the barn.

On the sled.

The kids enjoyed that! I should have gotten some pictures but I was inside busy getting groceries sorted and put away. Then I set out the ingredients I needed for baking.

The ingredients for the buttery rolls went into the bread machine. I put it on the basic dough setting and just left alone there on the counter to do it’s thing.

And the tofu for the mock cream cheese went into the blender. I added a little rice milk to get a nice consistency and then dumped it into a bowl. After adding a bit of sugar and lemon juice, it really tasted quite like regular cream cheese. I made a pumpkin cheese cake with it for our Christmas dinner while the dough for the rolls was in the bread machine.

We tested the rolls last night and they were a hit. So today I’ll be making another batch for tomorrow’s dinner. I think since these are so easy to make, I’ll be making them on a regular basis.

The kids also drug papa outside to make a snowman. It turned out really cute. It’s wearing great-grandma’s crocheted fedora. He even has a carrot nose.

G-man says the snowman’s name is Brady.

Finishing touches

There are more pictures on flickr of the most current snow.

Oh! I almost forgot one picture . . . this is a look down the hill we live on . . . I’m standing at the end of the driveway. The bottom of the hill is somewhere down there where it gets blurry.

Snowy Hill

In the arena,

Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year! I hope you enjoy the holidays and that you are blessed beyond measure.

  1. Snow! How nice. Here in Arizona (at least the part I am in) we just got rain. I know, we always want what we don’t have, so I will be content with the rain. And if I want some snow, I can drive a couple hours North and see some.

    Happy Holidays.

Wow Annie – looks like you’ve had a heap of snow.
Where in the world do you live? It must have been a lot of fun moving hay on a sled.

I’ve just had to add you to my reader again. You had disappeared – I’m betting I probably misfiled you.

    Cath -

Yeah, we had w-a-a-a-y more than usual here in the Seattle area. Often, when it does snow, we have an inch or two that lasts for less than 24 hours.

This year, we had a good 14-16 inches that stuck around for 11 days. And today it’s finally raining and melting off. I’m sure it’s going to make for some slick roads tonight, though!

Glad to hear you had a great holiday! Hope your New Year’s is a blast.

Thanks for ensuring I’m in your reader! ;-)

Wow Annie – that is a lot. Seattle is kind of in the same area as Oregon and I know Akemi said she had been snowed in there.

We had a bit of snow earlier in December but no more yet.
